CAPELLA ZULAL WELLNESS RESORT, DOHA, QATAR

[READ]

The architectural design of The Capella Zulal Wellness Resort is based upon the Qatari elements of religion and the relationship between interior and exterior space. Its simple form is influenced by the traditional concept of Qatari homes, which have defined spaces centered around an open courtyard.

Designs are drawn from the earthly elements of water, air, and land. In the light-filled courtyard grows a Sidra Tree, an iconic symbol of heritage. It survives the harsh heat and desolate landscapes of the desert, allowing life to flourish. It provides shade and shelter to travelers, healing properties from its leaves, and nourishment from fruit. Its symbolism and beauty are the epitome of this design.

Structured ceilings add further to the feeling of a spiritual space, which has zoned areas defined by considered furniture. Floating metallic structures are reminiscent of the traditional decorative patterns found locally and are a nod to historical craftsmanship. A simple central water feature makes for a tranquil and sensual experience.
